Neelkanta temple, Kalinjar Fort Uttar Pradesh,
- In Sanskrit the meaning of Kalinjar is - The destroyer of time. 'Kal' is time and 'jar' is destruction. Legend says after samudra manthan Hindu God, Lord Shiva, drank the poison and his throat became blue (hence the name Neel (blue) Kantha (throat)). He came to Kalinjar and overcome the 'Kal' i.e. he achieved victory over death. That's why the Shiva temple at Kalinjar is called Neelkanth Temple.
- Neelkanth temple is situated in the southern part of Kalinjar fort. We have to walk down165 stairs to reach this beautiful temple.
- In front of garbhgrah there is a roofless rectangular area which has sixteen pillars. These pillars are beautifully carved.
